| Mission Statement |
Care for the injured and their wounds is the oldest
realm of surgeons, and was their main occupation until
the end of the 19th century. Since then, the improvement
of surgical techniques and possibilities has led, initially,
to a focusing on the elective surgery of the body cavities,
and then to an increasing specialization in organ systems
or anatomical
regions, respectively.
Trauma surgery is defined by pathogenetic and organizational
approaches to the trauma victim and has developed and
established itself as an independent surgical discipline
in Central Europe during the last 50 years. This process
was guided by a holistic view of the treatment of trauma
patients. The object of the Association shall be to further
traumatology in general and to disseminate interest in,
and knowledge of, traumatology in particular.
